The second is this: “‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:31

Jesus told us the greatest two commandments were to love God and love our neighbors. But our world today looks very different than the world Jesus lived in — we have cars and cell phones and social media and commitments and so many distractions.

And while it may be easier than ever to hole up in our homes and keep to ourselves, it’s also easier than ever to connect with the people around you. You just have to know where to start.

Fun Fall Activity Ideas

Make a goal this fall to try even one of these ideas where live, work, or play. Whether you invite one person or ten people to join you, you will be sure to make an impact.

Host an NFL Kick-off Party

Stick some chicken wings in the air fryer and invite a few neighbors over to cheer on your favorite team.

Host a Labor Day Cookout

Whether you invite 1 or invite 10, it’s a perfect chance to throw some meat on the grill and enjoy a day off together.

Impromptu Dinner Out

If you are headed out to eat as a family one night, simply call up a neighbor to ask if they want to join you. (It’s ok if it’s last minute!)

“Treat” Your Neighbors

In the month of October, drop some treats on a neighbor’s doorstep with the printable below. They will then do the same thing for another neighbor… and before you know it, that little seed of joy has spread throughout your whole neighborhood, and maybe you got to meet someone you didn’t know before.

Start a Halloween block party

Set up tables with the other neighbors on your street to pass out candy to trick-or-treaters together, instead of having people go to each house individually.

meaningful conversation starters

Pray each day for opportunities for meaningful conversations with people God puts your life. Then, keep questions like these in your back pocket to get the conversation going.

  • What do you like about your job right now?
  • What was it like growing up in your hometown? Did you go trick-or-treating?
  • What were your parents like when you were growing up?
  • What do you like to do in your spare time?

downloadable tools

We want to make it as easy as possible to share God’s love with the people He has put in your life, so we’ve created a few items you can download and print off at home or keep handy on your phone to access when you need them.

Youth Sports Prayer Prompts

Download these prayers for your kids’ sports teams, save them to your phone, and choose one to pray before games and practices. Maybe you pray with just your kiddo, maybe lead the team in a prayer all together, or maybe you form a prayer group with the other parents to pray together from the stands.

Back-to-School Prayer Card

Print off this Prayer Card to include with a handwritten note for your kids’ new teachers this school year, to let them know you’re praying for them, and perhaps open the door to a meaningful conversation in the future.

“Treat” Your Neighbors Printable

Download and print this off, and hand deliver it to a neighbor with a treat (homemade or store-bought). Watch as the “treats” spread throughout the neighborhood!
