BEGIN

Pray to experience joy in Christ through our theme verse:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

Review the memory verse for the week:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (Philippians 4:4)

READ

Read and meditate on this passage today: selected verses from Paul on joy in others.

Look for what you learn about God and listen for what the Spirit is saying to you through the Word of God.

Romans 12:15

15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

With whom could you do this today? Or this week?

1 Thessalonians 2:19–20

19 For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? 20 Indeed, you are our glory and joy.

Who is Paul’s joy, glory, and crown?

2 Timothy 1:4

4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy.

How do you think seeing Timothy would fill Paul with joy? How do others fill you with joy?

Philemon 7

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.

Philemon was a good friend and partner in the ministry with Paul. Why has he brought Paul great joy?

PRAY

As the Spirit leads, let these themes guide you in your prayer today:

  • Rejoice in the Lord.
  • Thank and praise God for the people who bring you joy, who are your crown.
  • Ask God to show you who you could encourage to fill them with joy.
  • Pray for how you could refresh the hearts of God’s people and thus bring them joy.
