WEEK ONE

Last week we prepared our hearts for 21 days of dedicated prayer and fasting. Now we’re ready to begin! Let’s commit ourselves to this time and wait expectantly to see what the Lord will do in our church community.

Memory verse for the week:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Philippians 4:4

Day ONE

BEGIN

Pray to experience joy in Christ through our theme verse:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

Review the memory verse for the week:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (Philippians 4:4)

READ

Read and meditate on these chapters today: Philippians 1-4

This week we will look at joy in the book of Philippians. Paul’s letter teaches us how in Christ we can have joy in others. On this first day of the week read through the entire book in your own Bible, highlighting every use of the words “joy” and “rejoice.”

Philippians has been called the book of joy because it’s Paul’s most joyful letter. And it was written from a Roman jail cell! As you read, make note of your first impressions about what Paul says about joy. Look for what you learn about God and listen for what the Spirit is saying to you through the Word of God.

PRAY

As the Spirit leads, let these themes guide you in your prayer today:

  • Thank God for giving us his Word
  • Confess any sin God is bringing to your mind.
  • Ask God for strength to begin your fast.
  • Ask God for how to encourage your prayer partner.
  • Pray that the Spirit will give you insight into joy in Philippians.
