SEVEN
BEGIN
Pray to experience joy in Christ through our theme verse:
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)
Review the memory verse for the week:
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. (John 15:11)
READ
Read and meditate on these verses today: Selected verses on God and joy from the New Testament.
Look for what you learn about God and listen for what the Spirit is saying to you through the Word of God.
Matthew 13:44
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”
What is like is the treasure and how does it bring such joy? What is that kind of joyful treasure worth to you?
Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Meditate on our theme verse. Read the verse a phrase at a time. How is God described? What does Paul pray that God do for us? Notice the word that describes “joy.” How is trust related to joy? Notice where the power comes from to have peace, joy and hope.
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Why do you think joy is a fruit of the Spirit? Why would the Spirit’s presence in someone’s life produce joy?
