Pray to experience joy in Christ through our theme verse:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Review the memory verse for the week:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, (James 1:2)

Read and meditate on this passage today: Hebrews 12:1-3

Notice how the author of Hebrews encourages believers to persevere in hard times.

Hebrews 12:1–3

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

How are we to run the race? In what ways is Jesus our example? How does his example inspire us to endure suffering with joy? What was the joy set before Jesus?

PRAY

As the Spirit leads, let these themes guide you in your prayer today:

  • Thank God for the great cloud of witnesses.
  • Thank Jesus for being the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.
  • Thank Jesus for enduring the cross for the joy set before him.
  • Pray you will not grow weary and lose heart.
