Day SEVENTEEN

BEGIN

Pray to experience joy in Christ through our theme verse:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

Review the memory verse for the week:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, (James 1:2)

Read and meditate on this passage today: James 1:2-4

Notice how James encourages believers who are going through hard times.

James 1:2–4

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

What does James ask us to consider as “pure joy?” What enables us to do that? In other words, what good comes from trials of various kinds?

PRAY

As the Spirit leads, let these themes guide you in your prayer today:

  • Thank God for your various trials.
  • Pray that you can consider it pure joy to face the trials before you.
  • Ask the Lord to show you what good he is working in your life to mature you.
  • Pray the Spirit will continue to mature you so you are lacking nothing.
