Day SIXTEEN

BEGIN

Pray to experience joy in Christ through our theme verse:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

Review the memory verse for the week:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, (James 1:2)

Read and meditate on this passage today: 1 Peter 1:7-9

Notice how Peter encourages believers in times of persecution and suffering.

1 Peter 1:7–9

7 These (trials) have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

What is one reason that we experience suffering? What fills us with inexpressible joy?

PRAY

As the Spirit leads, let these themes guide you in your prayer today:

  • Ask God to give you his perspective on any suffering that you are enduring.
  • Pray for more faith to see Christ.
  • Pray for greater anticipation of his coming.
  • Pray to love Christ more.
  • Praise God for the end result of our faith, the salvation of our souls.
